Ron Crow, Chaplain (center)

The year 2011 has been called the “Year of Disasters.” Your Missouri Baptist Convention Disaster Relief volunteers have served faithfully in St. Louis after the Spring tornado, Poplar Bluff and Morehouse following the spring and summer flooding, at Joplin as they recover from the EF-5 tornado, and in Northeast Missouri, cleaning up from the flood there.

Your Missouri Mission Offering dollars help fund a very large portion of the Disaster Relief operating budget. Thank you for helping “Serve Christ in the Crisis.”  Our state offering goal this year is $750,000.

Disaster Relief Photos from Big Lake

Ice storm victim accepts Christ

chainsaw1 244x300 Ice storm victim accepts ChristConnie Handyside of the Mt. Salem Wyaconda Association chain saw unit experienced what we all pray and hope all disaster relief responses will involve. While responding after an ice storm at Cape Girardeau, Mo., Connie visited with a homeowner and shared the gospel. The Lord used her availability and witness as a disaster relief chaplain to convince that lady of her need for Jesus Christ. Connie had the privilege of leading her to faith in Christ right there on her front porch.

The Missouri Missions offering assists churches and associations in training Disaster Relief workers in the areas of mass care, providing a trailer for people to take a hot shower, learning to use a chain saw, child care, “mud out” (cleaning mud from flooded homes), assessment, and chaplains. Funds also are used for the upkeep of equipment and for maintaining the state Disaster Relief facility located at Marshall, Missouri.

2011 Offering Goal: $750,000
Every year Missouri Baptists support missions causes in our state by giving through the Missouri Missions Offering and by praying for the missionaries and ministries this offering supports. All money given through MMO is used specifically for Missouri missions and ministries. Missouri Baptists will spend the month of September learning about, praying for, and collecting the Missouri Missions Offering. But remember, you and your church can pray and give to state missions through the Missouri Missions Offering any time of the year!
