From Me to Missouri: Sending, Sharing & Starting

Preparation

Fill a glass pitcher or container with water. You also need green food coloring. Copy and cut out enough bills for each child. A template is provided on the next page of this booklet.

Bible Truth

II Corinthians 8:4 “They even asked & begged us to let them have the joy of giving their money for God’s people.” (Open your Bible to and read II Corinthians 8:4.) God tells us to give to and help others. We show God we love Him, by obeying Him. We show God’s love to others by helping them and telling them about His love.

 Activity

Introduce the MMO by explaining that it is an offering (money) that Missouri Baptist churches collect and use to help spread the love of Jesus. This is one way that we take God’s love all the way from “Me (ourselves) to Missouri (others in our state).”

Hold up the pitcher of water. Tell the kids that this pitcher represents the state of Missouri. Hold up the green food coloring. Ask the kids to tell you about things that are green. Keep going until someone says money (hint if you need to). Take a drop of “money” and pour it into the pitcher of water. Ask kids to explain what is happening and what that might have to do with the offering we take and reaching people in Missouri for Jesus. This would be a great time to talk about the ministries the offering supports and specifically how it is used in your own association. Make sure to cover the ways in which this offering sends, shares, and starts in order to reach Missouri.

Hand out a bill to each child. On the left side, have them write one way that the MMO helps others by sharing, sending or starting. Remind them that the bill is to remind them that this is an offering, or money, that is collected, but there are other ways besides giving that they can help with the MMO. On the right side of the bill, have them write or draw something that they can do (giving money, praying, sharing, etc.)

Prayer

Thank you, God, for loving us. Thank you for caring about us enough to send your son to die for our sins. Please help us share your amazing love with others as we try to reach the lost people in our state. Amen
