From Me to Missouri: Sending, Sharing & Starting
By Sarah Jackson
Children’s Sunday School Director, Tenth Street Baptist Church, Trenton
Make an enlarged copy of the state outline (minus the hearts on the bottom of the page) that is provided on the next page of this booklet. Place it on an easel or put it on poster board, in order that it can be stood up and seen by every child. Make and cut out as many hearts as it would take to cover the state outline. Make a copy of the Love of Jesus sheet for every child.
II Corinthians 8:4 “They even asked & begged us to let them have the joy of giving their money for God’s people.”(Open your Bible to and read II Corinthians 8:4) God tells us that we should give to and help others. It gives us great joy when we do what God tells us to.
Introduce the MMO by explaining that it is an offering (money) that Missouri Baptist churches collect and use to help spread the love of Jesus all the way from “Me (ourselves) to Missouri (others in our state).” Ask the children to share what ways this money might be used to help others. Ask them what we can send, share and start in order to show others the love of Jesus. For every answer they give, hand them a heart and a piece of tape. Have them tape the heart onto the state outline. When they have given all of the ways they know of, help them fill in the state by giving them other examples. When it is covered, ask the children what they notice about the state of Missouri now. Help them come to the conclusion that it is filled with love. Explain that by giving money to the MMO, we are helping to share the love of Jesus to others in Missouri.
Hand out the Love of Jesus sheet. Ask the children to draw one way that they can help show others the love of Jesus inside the heart.
Thank you, God, for loving us. Thank you for telling us in Your word that we should love one another. Help us to share your love with others and to help meet their needs. Amen!
